Book Two of The Rain Wild Chronicles

This continues the story begun in "The Dragon Keeper". The dragons and their keepers continue their journey up the Rain wild River. Alise and Leftrin's relationship becomes more complex and she is divided by her feelings for him. Sedric's relationship with the dragons changes and he comes to understand that Hest has been using the feelings that Sedric has for him to manipulate Sedric and he comes to realize that he can rely on himself.

The dragons themselves become more independent and realize that their relationship with their keepers is one in which both sides should benefit equally.

The legendary city of Kelsingra is found but it is not quite what either dragons or keepers expect. The human companions have to make decisions which will affect the rest of their lives.

I found this story very readable and as usual Robin Hobb's characters, human and otherwise seem fully described and I was keen to see what would happen to them as the story progressed.

I enjoyed this novel but am not sure that the story is actually finished. Robin Hobb usually writes trilogies but this tale seems essentially complete. I can see where more could be written but I don't see that it is necessary.
